Ernst Van De Vilme gets up with the sun and
drinks his earl-grey tea, straight up. Ernst was
born in Blackpool, England but left while still in
his teens. He made Germany his home and later
moved to the US. He now resides in New York
City, spending part of the year in Santa Fe, New
Mexico and traveling the globe.
Ernst was introduced to art by his father at the
age of 13 (his father is an established
designer/artist in the UK) and since then has
never stopped painting. Ernst still works toward
painting the perfect piece he envisioned the very
first day his father introduced him to art.
Following his passion for art and design, Ernst
studied at the renowned Fashion Institute of
Technology (FIT) in New York City. Today, Ernst
considers himself "an adventurous artist who
thrives on diversity." He sees his paintings in a
dream like vision and then uses acrylics to put
them down on canvas or panel, using rectangular
and uniquely shaped panels.
Ernst's sensitivity for color combinations is
extraordinary. His color palette varies widely
from bold to subdued, allowing him to convey
widely varying moods and temperatures in
each painting. When looking at his paintings
you are compelled to think of your favorite
color, even if you didn't know you had one.
Ernst uses multiple brushes at once,
sometimes holding up to four at a time,
painting ambidextrously. His brush strokes
can be so delicate and precise that they
almost become invisible. Ernst’s paintings are
impeccably crafted and the textures he
achieves are unparalleled. Once finished with
a painting he likes the surface of his canvas
to be as smooth as glass.
Ernst’s paintings range in size from small
gems to epic formats. Prices for his works
range form $1,500 to $15,000, depending upon
size and complexity.
